1 〔引き返す〕 turn back 《halfway》; retrace one's steps; (船が) put back 《to…》.

●来た道を戻る retrace one's steps; go back over one's way; return [turn back] the way one has come; go back (to) where one came (from)

・忘れ物を取りに戻る go back for sth that one has left behind

・行きつ戻りつする walk up and down 《the street》; walk to and fro

・店が休みで仕方なく戻ってきた. I had to come back without doing any shopping as the store was closed.
